DECEMBER 29
Arrival at the Parador Castillo de Santa Catalina. Welcome gala this evening at the
Parador, including a cocktail party with a delicious selection of Spain's famous TAPAS (hot & cold hors
d'oeuvres) and open bar. During the cocktail hour, a local regional folkloric dance troupe or a "Tuna"
(medieval minstrels) will perform for the guests. Welcome dinner of Spanish specialties, including
regional wines. After dinner enjoy a Flamenco guitar and song exhibition by talented local artists.
DECEMBER 30Buffet breakfast.
Today features an optional full day tour to Granada, including the famed
Alhambra, once the pleasure palace and fortress of Arab caliphs, and the nearby Sacromonte Gypsy Caves,
including lunch with regional wines. (Optional tours are not included in the package price). This
evening there will be a special Medieval Banquet at the Parador, hosted by the Count and Countess of
the castle, featuring a troubadour, court jester and waiters dressed in medieval garb. These local
actors will sit and mingle with the guests in what will surely be a night to remember. Wine will flow
freely.
DECEMBER 31Buffet breakfast.
Today's optional morning tour will be of Jaen and will feature the Roman baths and the Museum of Iberian
Art. Lunch at the Parador. Afternoon free. Tonight's special "End of Century/New Year's Dinner Bash" at
the Parador will feature a sumptuous 4-course dinner, featuring Rioja wines, beer and "Cava" (champagne),
plus a 5-piece band for dancing until 2 AM. At midnight a spectacular fireworks display from the battlements
of the castle will bring in the new millenium in a truly stellar fashion.
JANUARY 01Buffet breakfast.
Morning at leisure. Perhaps stroll along the castle walls, taking in the first view of the new millenium
over the seemingly endless vista of olive groves. At mid-morning our Chef, Mr. Miguel Marabe Garcia, will
be giving a complimentary cooking class on typical Andalusian Cuisine where the culinarily inclined may
learn the taste secrets of the delicious local food. Lunch at the Parador. Today's optional afternoon tour
will be to ancient Cordoba, featuring the famed Great Mosque (now a cathedral), with it's labyrinth of
columns and charming Jewish Quarter. Tonight's farewell dinner party at the Parador will be followed by an
Andalusian Fiesta, featuring a Flamenco dance troupe performing typical dances such as sevillanas, rumbas and
colombianas - audience participation is encouraged. At tonight's farewell dinner, a special commemorative
end-of-century ceramic, by local artist Paco Tito, will be given to each guest as a special souvenir of this
event.
